ACCOMPLISHED LEVEL SYLLABUS (DRAWING II, PAINTING II, & CERAMICS 3D II)

Welcome to Drawing II, Painting II or Ceramics and 3D II. These classes are designed with a student centered approach to the art making process. The accomplished level classes will teach skills to prepare you for more independent practice in the advanced level classes. National Visual Arts Anchor Standards are used for curriculum and assessment. The Creating Standards are 50% of your final grade. Sketches and student planning CR1 (Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work). Project work CR2 (Organize and develop artistic ideas and work). Critiques and refining artwork CR3 (Refine and complete artistic work). Digital portfolio and artist statements (Presenting Standards), art history (Responding Standards), reflection, self evaluations and guided practice (Connecting Standards).

CERAMICS & 3D II:

THIS SEMESTER COURSE IS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP PROFICIENCY IN CERAMIC AND SCULPTURAL MEDIA. STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP A PORTFOLIO WITH AN INDEPENDENTLY CHOSEN CONCENTRATION IN VARIOUS THEMES. STUDENTS WILL BUILD UPON THE SKILLS, CONCEPTS AND TECHNIQUES IN CERAMICS & 3D I. ALONG WITH THE STUDIO WORK STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN CRITIQUES, COMPLETE WRITTEN RESPONSES, ARTIST’S STATEMENTS, AND CREATE A COMPREHENSIVE DIGITAL PORTFOLIO OF THEIR WORK. ART HISTORY WILL FOCUS ON WELL KNOWN MASTERPIECES IN VARIOUS STYLES AND 3-D MEDIA. ARTWORK IS CHOSEN BASED ON THE AP ART HISTORY EXAM IN ORDER TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR NEXT LEVEL COURSEWORK.

DRAWING II:

THIS SEMESTER COURSE IS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP PROFICIENCY IN DRAWING SKILLS. PRINTMAKING METHODS SUCH AS LINOLEUM CUT, MONO-PRINT, AND LITHOGRAPHY ARE INTRODUCED IN THIS COURSE. ACHROMATIC AND COLOR MEDIA WILL BE EXPLORED BY THE STUDENT IN A MORE INDEPENDENT FORMAT USING IMPLIED LINE, DESCRIPTIVE LINE, EXPRESSIVE LINE, PORTRAITURE, LANDSCAPE AND STILL LIFE IN ABSTRACT, REALISTIC, SYMBOLIC, AND NON OBJECTIVE INTERPRETATIONS. THE ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN, DRAWING TECHNIQUES, TERMINOLOGY AND THEMES IN ART ARE EMPHASIZED IN THE STUDIO WORK. VARIOUS 2D MEDIA WILL BE EXPLORED. STUDENTS WILL PARTICIPATE IN CRITIQUES, COMPLETE WRITTEN RESPONSES, ARTIST’S STATEMENTS, AND CREATE A COMPREHENSIVE DIGITAL PORTFOLIO OF THEIR WORK. CDHS ART HISTORY CURRICULUM MATERIALS

PAINTING II:

THIS SEMESTER COURSE IS DESIGNED TO DEVELOP PROFICIENCY IN PAINTING. WATERCOLOR, GOUACHE, TEMPERA, ENCAUSTIC AND ACRYLIC ARE USED TO CREATE ORIGINAL COMPOSITIONS WITH VARIOUS TECHNIQUES AND STYLES. STUDENTS WILL WORK MORE INDEPENDENTLY AND CREATE MORE MEANINGFUL SUBJECT MATTER. THE STUDENTS WILL STUDY THE SYMBOLISM AND ICONOGRAPHY OF MASTERPIECES AND IDENTIFY THEMES WITHIN THESE WORKS. IDENTITY, SOCIAL ISSUES, LIFE LESSONS, NARRATIVE AND SYMBOLISM WILL BE EXPLORED. THE STUDENTS WILL CREATE SEVERAL ORIGINAL PAINTINGS WITHIN THESE MEANINGFUL THEMES. ALONG WITH THE STUDIO WORK: STUDENT WILL PARTICIPATE IN CRITIQUES, COMPLETE WRITTEN RESPONSES, ARTIST STATEMENTS, AND CREATE A DIGITAL PORTFOLIO OF THEIR WORK. ART HISTORY WILL FOCOS ON WELL KNOWN PAINTED MASTERPIECES, WITH STRONG THEMATIC REFERENCES, AND ICONOGRAPHY. ARTWORK IS CHOSEN BASED ON THE AP ART HISTORY EXAM IN ORDER TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR NEXT LEVEL COURSEWORK.

RULES & EXPECTATIONS

* Cell phones should be silenced and parked in the cell phone garage.

* It is expected for you to be working on our art curriculum at all times during class. Acceptable classroom activities are: sketching and project planning, project work, critiques, artist statement writing, and art history activities.

* All artwork needs to be school appropriate: nothing offensive, sexual, pro drug related, or violent content is allowed.

* All students will check Canvas regularly and remain active and proficient in the course requirements.

* All classroom interaction will be respectful and classroom environment will remain a supportive artistic studio. No harassment or inappropriate language will be tolerated. Brave Space at all times.

* All materials will be appropriately used and returned to the designated location.

*During independent studio time students may be allowed to listen to their own music with earbuds or headphones.

* Students will be required to create work in all domains: Creating, Presenting, Responding, and Connecting.

*All Non-Proficient work should be revised at this Accomplished Level of coursework.

*Late and revised work should not exceed 2 weeks time.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

The CDHS academic integrity policy applies to this course. The work shown in class will be expected to be created by the individual student. The subject should be original and not duplicated from another source or idea. Any academic dishonesty may result in the student failing the course, project, or artwork removed from display.

ART SHOWS

Your work will be displayed in art shows and contests. All artwork will be returned to you at the end of the semester, after semester art show, or unless otherwise discussed. Students are encouraged to enter as many art shows and contests he or she desires. Some art show participation will be required.
