ADVANCED LEVEL SYLLABUS (ADVANCED STUDIO & AP STUDIO )

 

ADVANCED STUDIO 1:

 

THIS SEMESTER COURSE IS OFFERED FOR STUDENTS WHO WORK INDEPENDENTLY, EXHIBITING A HIGH LEVEL OF SELF-DISCIPLINE, MATURITY AND CREATIVE DRIVE.  THIS CLASS IS FOR THE STUDENT INTERESTED IN BUILDING A PORTFOLIO FOR POST SECONDARY EDUCATION IN ART RELATED FIELDS.  STUDENTS WILL CHOOSE A DRAWING, 2D OR 3D CONCENTRATION TO DEMONSTRATE PROFICIENCY.  STUDENTS WILL SKETCH, DESIGN, AND DEVELOP ORIGINAL STUDIO WORK.  A PRE-ARTIST STATEMENT WILL OUTLINE PLANS FOR STUDIO WORK AND REFERENCE AT LEAST 3 MASTER ARTISTIC INFLUENCES.  THE ARTISTIC INFLUENCES WILL ALSO BE REFERENCED IN A POST-ARTIST STATEMENT FOR EACH ARTWORK CREATED.  A COMPREHENSIVE DIGITAL PORTFOLIO WILL BE REQUIRED AS WELL AS SEVERAL WRITTEN RESPONSES.  STUDENTS WILL WORK ON ACCOMPLISHED STANDARDS.  STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK FROM OBSERVATION.  FINAL PORTFOLIO MUST INCLUDE A SELF PORTRAIT, WORK DEMONSTRATING PERSPECTIVE, AND STILL LIFE.  ARTWORK CHOSEN TO STUDY WILL BE THE CHOICE OF THE STUDENT.

ADVANCED STUDIO 2:

This course uses National Visual Arts Standards and Fine Arts Iowa Core Standards to guide assessing student growth.  Art students will monitor their progress with the following assessments:

RULES & EXPECTATIONS

​

Cell phones should be silenced and parked in the cell phone garage.

* It is expected for you to be independently working on our art curriculum at all times during class.  Acceptable classroom activities are: sketching and project planning, project work, critiques, artist statement writing, and art history activities.  LOW EFFORT AND LOW CLASS PARTICIPATION WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE MORE ADVANCED ART CLASSES/ REMOVED FROM COURSE.

* Creating standards will be assessed at weekly checkpoints.

* All students will check Canvas regularly and remain active and proficient in the course requirements.

* All classroom interaction will be respectful and classroom environment will remain a supportive artistic studio.  No harassment or inappropriate language will be tolerated.

* All materials will be appropriately used and returned to the designated location.

*During independent studio time students may be allowed to listen to their own music with earbuds or headphones.

*Students will provide evidence in all art domains: Creating, Presenting, Responding and Connecting.

*All Non-Proficient work should be revised at this Accomplished Level of coursework.  

*Late and revised work should not exceed 2 weeks time.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

​

The CDHS academic integrity policy applies to this course.  The work shown in class will be expected to be created by the individual student.  The subject should be original and not duplicated from another source or idea.  Any academic dishonesty may result in the student failing the course, project, or artwork removed from display.  All artwork for portfolio should be original and created at a high level of difficulty for the individual student.    All responses and ideas should also be original in both written and oral context.

ART SHOWS

​

Your work will be displayed in art shows and contests.  All artwork will be returned to you at the end of the semester, after semester art show, or unless otherwise discussed.  Students are encouraged to enter as many art shows and contests he or she desires.  Some art show participation will be required.
